we read the lines between the lines, these dead letters won't survive
“Give me the oldest bourbon you’ve got in stock, straight, skip the rocks, and pour until it hits the rim.” Sid demanded in a sour tone. He came here to seek comfort in the sin of intoxication. “And none of this watered down bullshit, that I keep being served. I swear on my mother’s life, the next person to water down my whiskey will get a curse, right between the beady little eyes. I don’t care how pretty they are.”
The attractive barmaid, who looked barely old enough to be drinking what she was serving, was quick to fetch him the oldest bourbon in the place. She knew there'd be consequences for keeping him waiting. No one came out of an argument with a Bulldrocks unscathed. They weren’t well-known for their patience. Slowly, she poured the contents into a tall glass, the caramel colored liquid swirling as it met the bottom. “The rim,” he reminded her, while watching her pour. “Good girl.” She placed it down in front of him. “I think you'll find it to your liking, Mr. Bulldrocks.” She said, flashing him a playful smile.
Satisfied by how quickly she had tended to him, Sidney removed a gold galleon from his cloak pocket and slid it across the smooth wooden surface of the bar. She gladly accepted it. He stayed quiet for quite some time after that. There was something troubling him, but no one in the bar dared to ask (or hadn't bothered to find out). It looked like he had been run through the wringer - and hung out to dry. His eyes went from focused on the glass to unfocused in a matter of seconds. He released a stressed sigh from between his lips. There were dark lines underneath his brown eyes, and stubble around his handsome features.

IN THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME
too much poison come undone- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - That morning had been a glorious one; the sun had stretched it's lengthy, golden arms over the far-reaching lands encompassing Hogwarts - coating everything in a strangely golden hue. The rain from the previous night had long since passed, but traces of it's torrential visit were still visible in the morning sunlight; the pavement and any foliage were littered with morning dew, giving everything a star-like glint as the drops winked in the sun's rays. The air was fresh and crisp, with a slight breeze to keep the air clean of the smell of damp from the night before. Nathaniel relished such mornings. It was like a new start. But his good fortune didn't last long; as the Professor had made his way from the castle towards London to pick up some supplies via the floo network, greyish-looking clouds had begun to form and loom overhead - but they weren't yet heavy enough to carry rain. This gave the English city a very typically dull atmosphere, leaving Nathaniel with his spirits dampened furthermore.
The usual bustling of crowds didn't help either. Nathaniel hadn't been 100% as it was, but now that almost every corner of Diagon Alley swarmed with numerous witches and wizards, he couldn't help but feel a that much worse. People shoved in and out of shops constantly, not in a hurry, but not exactly taking their time either. Were they trying to act oblivious to the events that were happening here, in the real world? Or was this the result of what happens when people become frightened? The smell of fear did not hang in the air like you would expect, but Nathaniel could just about pick up on it, everyone was paranoid - nobody really trusted anyone else. It was grim, and the Potions master just wanted to hide away. Away from people.
Shifting through crowds, Nathaniel began making his way towards a newspaper stand, he tossed seven bronze Knuts to the seller and grabbed a copy of the Daily Prophet whilst considering all of the potential disaster headlines that would be littering it. He then paid his routine visits into various shops; Flourish and Blotts, the Apothecary, and even Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour - all in the name of his occupation, of course. It soon dawned on him that he had forgotten to pick up a few important potions ingredients, which unfortunately, he had only ever been able to find in the depths of Knockturn Alley. With a groan of frustration he took a left down a dark and dreary side road.
Nathaniel felt drained after gathering the last of his supplies, on top of the stress and side effects of his condition, he looked a lot like a St. Mungo's patient. Craving a drink to settle his senses, the Professor took a detour into the Mundane Mandrake. It was dark, and with few occupants. Save for a couple of wizards gambling in a corner, a man at the bar and a few especially young-looking barmaids. Nathaniel awkwardly took a seat at the bar, a good distance from the other man who also settled there. He looked worn and beaten, a stark reminder of what he himself might have looked like at this moment. But something about him looked familiar. He just couldn't quite put his finger on what, or why. Shaking his head, the Professor ordered his usual pint and pulled out his paper he'd purchased earlier. Though he couldn't help but occasionally steal glances of the man sitting across from him.

It had been a wonderful day to say the least. The sun was shining and the damn birds were singing. It was enough to drive one woman insane. Especially with the effect the change of good weather had on people and to put it more specifically, the people who she'd been forced to work with. The young woman had watched from the window of her office as many her co-workers had left the building, chirping and grinning like idiots. 'it must be something in the water' She thought as she turned her attention back to what lay in front of her. Light began to creep slowly behind the tall army of trees, slyly sneaking into her office, creating even more of a glow to the over sized room. Sighing, Adora had turned her attention back to her desk that had at least a dozen files scattered over it. Taking a seat, her eyes had skimmed over the printed pages, "I don't think I'll be attending the case today." It had been the first words she had spoken all morning to the younger girl, 'Are you sure?' was the only response Adora had managed to register.
“Yes Sarah, I’m quite positive.” Adora Scarborough told her assistant who towered over her desk to take a look at the papers. This job was beginning to get tiring, all this rather dull work, the meetings and conferences, they where all the same in Adora’s eyes, she wanted something new, it was the reason why she still strongly supported the ways of the death eaters. As she snapped the papers of Sarah, she glared at the short and chubby girl. “I need a favour.” The words escaped her lips in a cold and sharp tone, it was her usual tone of voice when it came to talking with anyone whom she had a strong dislike for. The woman, no girl was at the mere age of eighteen and she was completely hopeless in Adora's eyes. “Yes Miss?” Now this voice was the complete opposite of her own, it was calm but she also sensed a hint of fear in the tone of her high-pitched voice. Would this really be a suitable task for such a useless little girl? Yes, it seemed rather simple enough and if she failed then Sarah may as well consider herself disposed of. “I need you to tell the courts that I shall not make it to the meeting today. Tell them, I’m far to busy with other work or you could simply tell the truth and say that I am in dire need of some alcohol. Also mention that I am truly sorry.” The expression on her face dropped, her eyes switched from side to side quickly as if two figures stood beside her, now she gave away her nervousness. If she had the day off, then she was going to spend it wisely.
Pushing herself off her leather chair and onto her feet, Adora had waited until Sarah had left her office before grabbing her coat and sliding it on, covering her expensive dress that hugged her small frame. A smile tugged the corners of her lips as she reached up and pushed her slender digits through her long blonde hair. Without a second thought, Adora had took hold of her handbag and made her way out of the office and took the nearest floo system out of her workplace.
Diagon Alley would never change, that was one thing Adora Scarborough was more than positive about. The smirk had remained glued to her lips as she strolled down the cobbled side walk with all eyes on her, the young girls eying her with envy and the reckless teenage boys devouring her with their greedy orbs. Just like it had always been during her school years, but she had brushed the looks off and continued her journey to the nearest pub, one she was a regular in.
Adora had thrown open the door without a second thought nor had she taken the time to allow her eyes to scan over many of the familiar faces of the customers. Instead she had made it her mission to slide past the greasy alcoholic without any of them attempting to lay a finger on her. However, many of them knew better. That was, if they wanted to keep their pathetic lives. Adora had taken her spot between two men and before she could capture a glance, the young woman slipped out of her coat and placed it over the chair. "I'll have the usual." She was quick to demand in a strong voice causing the barmaid to forget all the current orders and scurry to fetch Adora her drink - one she had been craving for these many hours. It had been then her cerulean eyes scanned the room, but somehow leaving the best for last as she was quick to realize she sat perched between two men whom she'd spent her school years with. Although both had been in the year above her. Adora had found herself surprised that she'd been able to remember one while she'd found it hard to forget the other. She'd allowed her eyes to shoot towards Sidney Bulldrocks, a man who she'd run into many times over the years. After all, both had shared the same strong beliefs.
For a short moment, Adora had considered trailing both of the men into conversation but instead she had silently paid for her drink and like most women, kept to herself.

all the lonely people. where do they all come from? all the lonely people. where do they all belong?
Sidney’s thoughts dipped into the darkest pools of his mind, swimming in his subconscious demons. Without even thinking about it, he picked up his glass of bourbon and raised it into the air. “This is a toast,” he said to no one in particular (and everyone at the same time), “to our failed dreams, hopes that linger in the foreground and to us – in hopes that tomorrow we wake as better men.” He then threw his head back, downing the intoxicating liquid in one mouthful.
This left everyone staring at him. He placed the glass back down on the bar with a sharp and hollow ‘clink’. “Another,” he growled underneath his breath. “Oh, and a round for everyone in this place.” The bar maiden nodded, filled up his glass and then went off to serve the others. This was when Sidney noticed the woman sitting in the corner of the bar, cloaked in shadows, wearing a cloak that resembled those worn by the ministry. Was there a spy amongst them?
The Mundane Mandrake was an unusual place to see someone in that sort of garb. Sidney stood up, picked up his glass and made his way toward the back of the bar, noticing that her eyes were still on him. He squinted through the dimly lit room to see a familiar face looking back at him. “Adora,” he moved closer to the table, tripping in the process. His glass of bourbon was airborne in the blink of an air, splashing down on a short wizard, wearing thick framed glasses.
‘Umfpt!” It felt like all the air was sucked from his lungs upon meeting the floor. This was just his misfortune today. Dust flew up into the air as his shot glass shattered upon the ground. Damn it! He was going to drink that. He looked up at what had tripped him, but only saw the guy staring down at him. “What are you looking at four-eyes?” He picked himself off the floor and dusted his robes off.

I'M WAITING FOR THE CALL, THE HAND ON THE CHEST
i'm ready for the fight, and fate- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nathaniel stared into his glass, rotating his wrist in a steady motion, and watching the liquid subsequently roll and swirl. It occurred to him how such a small action could create such chaos, almost never-ending, as he ceased his movements the alcohol continued to spin with a kind of certainty. How easy it was to throw the world into oblivion, to throw off it's balance with one simple action and the sheer momentum would keep it going and growing. Nathaniel regularly dipped into the deepest fathoms of his mind, delving away from reality and musing about what was, what is and what could be. He was no philosopher, of course, but like many others he relished in the tranquility and solitude that comes with simply thinking.
The sudden sound of someone talking quickly brought Nathaniel back into the room. Looking over, the man beside him was raising a toast to... Himself? Nathaniel snickered to himself, rolling his eyes. Drunk. Someone else soon entered the pub. He didn't look up, it was none of his business who it was, but soon deduced from her statement she was a woman with quite the authoritative presence; 'I'll have the usual.' Looking up he was surprised for his gaze to be met with such an epitome of beauty, her delicate frame and shimmering blonde hair was a stark contrast to the fear she induced in the waitress, who hurriedly fetched her order without question.
The newcomer seemed to invoke a response in the man sitting across from the Professor, they must have been previous acquaintances. Almost immediately he lifted himself from his chair and went over to join her, mumbling her name as he did so, 'Adora,' Nathaniel raised his eyebrows. That name, Adora. It certainly rang a bell, though he wasn't sure where from. Had they met in passing? Or was it merely coincidence? He couldn't help but think she'd once, perhaps attended Hogwarts. Maybe, but then again maybe not. He couldn't be sure, he'd already thought that he recognised the other man from somewhere, something he was also unsure of. His condition had left his memories a little worse for wear. Even so, there was no joy to be found in wasting time, he felt should probably get going before the drink grew too friendly to him.
Downing the last of his flask, Nathaniel slammed it back down on the table and tossed a silver sickle on to the counter. It was then that his musings from earlier seemed to come into effect... He got up and turned to leave, were it not for the man from earlier stumbling into his path. He fell to the ground in a heap, his glass shattering on the floor and its contents soaking Nathaniel's robes. His jaw agape in shock, the Professor's silvery-blue gaze dropped to the man on the floor; 'what are you looking at, four-eyes?' he mocked. Nathaniel frowned, he wasn't good with confrontations, he had a lack of experience as he usually kept to himself and subsequently avoided them. 'Nothing pretty, I can assure you.' He retorted, clearing his robes with a wave of his wand.
